The current buzzword in mental health is measurable outcomes yet very few if any in mental health or coaching produce measurable outcomes. The question to everyone in the business of mental health or coaching is, “What is the reason for not producing measurable outcomes for your clients?” Every Certified Burris Coach is required not just to produce a measurable outcome but measurable improvement across a three-instrument twenty-two point checklist in order to complete their certification.
At Burris Institute we believe mental health and coaching clients should require their practitioners to have a measurable outcome in place and following are the top five reasons for doing this.
- Client and practitioner will not have to guess if an issue has been resolved.
- A normal range could be established which would enable a clear objective for the client.
- Client and practitioner will be able to see the difference being made at every session.
- Proficiency of the practitioner could be measured.
- Efficacy of the treatment modality could be established.
- Miss diagnosis would be significantly reduced.
- Dangerous behavioral medications could be virtually eliminated for young children.
- Psychophysiological issues could be more readily identified and addressed.
- Care of the client would be more focused and changed sooner when required.
- Someone at risk for suicide could be immediately established and changed.
Measurable outcomes empower the client to make a decision about a practitioner based on treatment, timeline and results. Without a measurable outcome, a coach or mental health professional can drag a client’s sessions on for years and never resolve the issue.
Requiring a measurable outcome will enable scrutiny of a treatment modality. What is measured, why it is measured and how the measurements were generated are just the beginning of making a treatment modality the best it can possibly be. This also assures the client they are getting the best help possible.
